An already stylish space has been given a yellow makeover—which palette do you prefer?

Kitchens with dark colours create a statement, and this one doesn’t disappoint in that regard. Devol’s St. John’s Square showroom showcases their Haberdas kitchen, a dark, brooding space that is hard to believe anyone would want to remodel.

The top floor of the kitchen label’s townhouse was converted from a sleek black refuge to a yellow-hued environment created to feel like a private members club by their creative director, Helen Parker. This is a voyage through two utterly different kitchen colour schemes, but both are as eye-catching. However, which one do you prefer??

This was the kitchen of an old Haberdashery.

If you’re looking for inspiration for a black kitchen, go no further than this townhouse—colourful paint schemes of dark olive green complement the floor’s strong tone in the larger area. Additionally, an undercurrent of white marble stood out against the otherwise dark backdrop.

The ‘private members club’ look introduced by the Haberdasher’s notoriously ‘un-kitchen furniture goes hand in hand with the space’s dark tones to create an overall ambience. Devol(opens in new tab) says that the mid-century modern style is currently a top choice for people with versatile living spaces.

The bright colours were carried into the dining room from the kitchen counters, which had previously been steeped in deep hues. With these daring colour schemes, the bright book spines, tainted glass accents, and small gallery walls all served as small pockets of colour.

despite the trend. ‘It’s mind-boggling how much the room has changed,’ they add. An earthy golden-toned neutral was our new pick, considerably lighter and brighter than previously and a little unique.’

In addition to complementing the custom-made oak cabinets, this colour scheme also extends to the roof. No visual conflict exists between the space’s cream and white accent colours.

A YELLOW-TONED HAVEN FOLLOWS

Despite the current popularity of dark tones in kitchens, deVOL decided to paint their walls a golden hue – despite the trend. ‘It’s mind-boggling how much the room has changed,’ they add. It was an earthy yellow-toned neutral, considerably lighter and brighter than the one we had previously used, and it was a first for us.’

For colour psychologist Lee Chambers(opens in new tab), this change reveals psychological peculiarities and remarkable new design features.

According to him, “the black kitchen has been a style hit, providing a sleek, sophisticated edge to a room that may easily feel outmoded as trends change” When it comes to colour, it can have a powerful effect on people’s moods.

In our contemporary dynamic and stressful world, though, it can feel less welcome and doesn’t provide the same peaceful steadiness as warmer neutral tones. To feel grounded and spacious in these times, it helps to be surrounded by natural materials, elements, and colours that evoke a sense of nostalgia and gentle optimism.
